One of the questions I get asked most often is: “When should I send my wedding flowers for preservation?”

The simple answer is: as soon as possible.

The sooner your flowers arrive, the better their condition will be, which means I can preserve as much of their natural beauty as possible.

Although this guide focuses on bridal bouquets, the same advice applies to memorial and funeral flowers, anniversary flowers, birthday bouquets, and all your favourite blooms.

Why Timing Matters

Fresh flowers begin to change almost immediately after they’re picked.  Even if they still look beautiful, they are already losing moisture and starting the natural ageing process.

Waiting too long can lead to:

* Browning petals

* Mould developing inside the blooms

* Petals becoming fragile

* Colour fading

* Flowers losing their shape

Sending your bouquet as soon as possible gives your flowers the best chance of being preserved beautifully for years to come.

If you are local to Cardiff, or nearby areas such as South Wales, I highly recommend dropping your wedding flowers directly to my studio whenever possible. This is the safest and quickest way to ensure your bouquet is handled with care and arrives in the best possible condition for preservation.

It’s helpful to ask a wedding guest who is based locally to drop off the flowers on your behalf, especially if you are travelling or going on your honeymoon after the wedding day.

The Ideal Time to Send Your Wedding Bouquet

I recommend posting your bouquet within 1–3 days after your wedding whenever possible.

For example:

* Saturday wedding → Send your flowers on Monday.

* Friday wedding → Post them on Saturday if available, or Monday.

* Midweek wedding → Send them the following day.

I highly recommend posting your flowers in the morning using the next-day delivery option only.

If you’re planning to leave for your honeymoon straight after your wedding, don’t worry. Many of my clients ask a trusted family member, friend, or wedding coordinator to package and send their bouquet on their behalf.

A little planning means you can enjoy your honeymoon knowing your flowers are safely on their way to being preserved.

Can Wedding Flowers Be Preserved Several Days after the Wedding?

Sometimes, yes.

If your bouquet is already several days old, don’t assume it’s too late. Every bouquet is different. Some flowers last much longer than others, especially if they’ve been kept cool and hydrated.

How Should I Store My Flowers Before Sending Them?

While you’re waiting to send your bouquet:

* Keep the stems in clean, fresh water. Even on your wedding day, if you’re not using your bouquet, just keep it in water

* Store the flowers in a cool room away from direct sunlight.

* Avoid leaving them in a hot car.

* Don’t place them near radiators or other heat sources.

* Refresh the water daily if possible.

These simple steps can make a huge difference to the final preserved result.

Booking in advance means everything is organised before your wedding day, giving you one less thing to think about afterwards.
